German Shepherd / Husky Mix

This faithful breed is a mix between a German Shepherd and a Siberian Husky, and is also known as a Shepsky or a Gerberian Shepsky.  The Shepsky was initially bred during the late 1990s to create an exceptional working dog.  This breed is known to be loving, playful, extremely smart, and very protective over the family.  However, they are not a good breed for apartment dwellers or for new dog owners.  Though they look intimidating they are also very sensitive and gentle and do not like to be alone.  This breed does fine with chilly and wintry weather due to its parent breeds originating from cold climates. Due to their being a working breed they do have a lot of energy and require a great deal of exercise.  Therefore, they do need to have a task to do, or they can be quite destructive.  They are commonly 20-25 inches tall, usually weigh 45-88 pounds.

Australian Shepherds, bred initially to herd livestock and be work dogs, have maintained their energetic nature and are happiest when given a task and being played with. These dogs are very intelligent and thrive when performing activities and love to learn new tricks and games. They are easy to train and highly intelligent, but do have a tendency to bark or howl, and use their mouth to communicate by chewing or play-biting, and for this reason usually enjoy activities such as fetch. Aussies are prone to explore and have very high energy needs. It is important for them to get lots of exercise.
