Malchi or "Mal-Chi" puppies are combination of the Maltese and Chihuahua breeds. They are popular because they have Chihauhua spunk, yet are not "yappy" and do not shed everywhere.  Typically, the Malchi dogs are 8-12 pounds when full grown. Like any dog breed, that can vary. There have been cases of smaller Malchi puppies.

Like all hybrids, they will vary a little by generation. A F1 Malchi will behave and act a little differently than a F2 (second generation) Malchi.  Some times a first generation Malchi is with a purebred Maltese or Chihuahua, if this is the case the Malchi will strongly favor the side of the purebred.

Because of their size, MalChi puppies are not recommend for herding cattle.  No good can come out of a situation of Malchi dogs running loose in a herd of cattle. If you own a ranch, or a dairy farm, and are looking for a good cattle dog, we recommend a Hangin' Ranch Cow Dog, or perhaps Border Collie,  or Blue Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog).

MalChi puppies are reportedly easier to house train than purebred Maltese puppies. They are very intelligent and can be trained to do many tricks.

MalChi dogs often have a white coat, however that can vary. Sometimes they sport brown, black or a mixture of the colors. The most common color is white. The coat is typically a bit courser than a purebred Maltese coat, but is easy to keep clean.

MalChi dogs make excellent family pets. They have an easygoing personality, enjoy children, and get along well with other dogs. They thrive in apartment living, and are small enough they can get plenty of excerise in an average size house.
